Beginner's guide
Here is a basic guide for those who are not sure where to start.
Registration
* First, choose your name, password, job, and sex.
* All four of the above can be changed during the game, but changing your name, job, and sex will cost a lot of in-game money.
Sex differences
* Different sexes have different appearances
* There are several jobs that are only available to one sex or the other:
* Male: Troubadour, BlackMage, Paladin, DarkMage, and Soldier
* Female: Dancer, WhiteMage, Angel, Devil, and FallenAngel
Jobs
* In this game, your role will change greatly depending on your job, so choose carefully.
* However, if your job is level 20 or higher, it's possible to change to a different job.
Playing solo? Grouping up to play as a party? Playing as a tank? Helping out as a healer? Wiping out enemies with powerful magic? Choose a job that suits you. For more information, see: job types.
* After completing your player registration, the story begins in the Exchange Plaza.
Basic actions
Just as you would use any other type of chat, simply type into the input box and press the "Speak" button. If an action word is included, an action will occur; the available actions are shown below the input box, like "@Move".
As an example, type @Speak into the input box and press the "Speak" button, and @TownGirl will give you a response. This is how actions are performed.
Valid ways to perform actions
* @Speak is **OK**
* Hello@Speak is **OK**
* @SpeakHello is **NO GOOD**. Due to the lack of space between "Speak" and "Hello", the action will be interpreted as "@SpeakHello" instead of "@Speak"
* @Speak Hello is **OK**
* Ah@Speak Hello is **OK**
Performing actions on specific targets
Some actions require you to specify a target. Use ">" to specify a target like "@Examine>[target]" (without the brackets), where [target] is the name of your intended target. If you don't specify a target, you will either target yourself, or nothing will happen.
Valid ways to perform targetted actions
* @Examine>[target] is **OK**
* @Examine >[target] is **OK**
* @Examine > [target] is **NO GOOD**. The space between ">" and the intended target causes it to not be treated as a target
Basic actions
* @Speak: Talk to NPC characters.
* @Examine: Check the status of an opponent. It will provide your own status if a target is not specified.
* @Whisper: Have a private conversation with the specified player. If the player does not exist or a name is not specified, the input will be invalid.
* @Move: Move to the specified location. If a location is not specified, a list of locations will be displayed.
* @Home: Move to the specified house. If the house does not exist or is not specified, you will move to your own house.
* @Logout: Log out and return to the TOP screen.
* @Screenshot: Take a screenshot with the specified word as the title. If a title is not specified, the location will be used.
Typing it in every single time is a pain
Instead of typing everything, you can click on action words and character icons with your mouse to auto-place the relevant actions into the input box.
Preparing for a quest
By equipping weapons and armor, you can increase your attack and defense power. You can only have one weapon and one armor at a time. Just by having them on you, you have them equipped.
* Let's head to the weapon shop and armor shop by using @Move>WeaponShop and @Move>ArmorShop and prepare our equipment.
* If you have enough money left over, it's a good idea to buy a MedicinalHerb at the item shop (@Move>ItemShop).
Pay attention to the weight of your equipment! Weight lowers agility.
If your agility is lower than your opponents:
* Your attacks are more likely to miss.
* Your opponent is more likely to land critical hits.
So let's equip weapons and armor that match your stats (in this case, agility).
Right, let's go on a quest!
When you're ready, go on a quest by using @Move>Quest.
The 3 available quests are:
* @Party, where you can form a party and defeat monsters.
* @Arena, where you can fight other players.
* @GuildBattle, where you can hold battles between guilds.
You can distinguish arena () and guild battles () by their respective marks.
@Party is where the various "quest locations" are displayed.
* In the arena, money is used to bet on fights, so @Party is recommended for beginners.
* You cannot participate when these are shown: (quest is active) (party is full)
* You can participate when this is shown: (party is waiting to start)
* You can view the details of the player participants of a quest by using @Examine>%%***%%. It's a good idea to check this before participating.
If you find a quest you wish to join, you can join it by using @Join>%%***%% where %%***%% is the name of the quest (or you can just click the quest name with your mouse).
If there's no quest you wish to join, you can create your own with @Make.
* First, let's head to the first quest location "PuniPuniPlains" to get familiar with things.
* Alternatively, you can use @Spectate to watch other people's quests.
Quest creation
When you use @Make, the quest creation screen will appear.
* **Party name**: The quest title. You can put anything you want here, but you can't leave this field blank.
* **Progression speed**:
* **Fast**: The wait times between actions will be the normal length.
* **Medium**: The wait times will be about twice as long.
* **Slow**: The wait times will be about three times as long.
* **Quest location**: The more times you change jobs, the more locations will be available.
* **Join conditions**: Use this if you don't want strong (or weak) players to join. This won't prevent them from spectating, however.
* **Password**: Only those who know the password will be able to join or spectate.
* **Allow spectating**: Uncheck this if you don't want others to be able to watch you.
* **Bet**: Arena only. This sets the amount of money required to join.
* **Rounds**: Arena and guild battles only:
* **1 wins**: The first party/guild to get 1 win is the winner.
* **2 wins**: The first party/guild to get 2 wins is the winner.
* **3 wins**: The first party/guild to get 3 wins is the winner.
Leader privileges
The player who created the quest will be the leader (). The leader can kick other players who have joined the quest by using @Kick, but only before the quest has begun.
Details for each quest
* @Party
* @Arena
* @GuildBattle
Combat
* Basic combat knowledge
Any HP or MP you lose during battle will remain lost after battle. You cannot join quests if your HP is fully depleted. There are two methods of recovering your HP and MP:
* You can use @Move>PattysBar to go to Patty's Bar and order food or a drink. However, this costs money.
* You can use @Home and fully recover by using @Sleep. However, you will not be able act while sleeping (lasts 10 minutes by default).
There's also your fatigue level. It will increase by 1% for each quest and casino game you join, and by 3% for each battle. If you exceed a certain fatigue level (100% by default), you will be unable to join quests. Like HP and MP, fatigue can also be recovered by sleeping at home.
Conclusion
That's the general gist of how to play. By the way, magic has little effect on metal monsters.
