Why does perl suck so bad

It doesn't suck, it's just that a lot of examples of it are old and written by amateurs (;^Д^)
Let's discuss Hakoniwa Islands!
I have just suffered a terrible disaster. A tourist called Taro came to my island. And when I say 'came', I mean CAME! The mountain God got angry and erupted, it was like, "pathetic, let me show you how to cum".
Anyway, now half my island is wasteland. Please send aid (but keep the aids)!

There should be a 2ch-style textboard called /gline/, similar to the 2channel textboard of the same name.

Re: Add a textboard called /gline/ Anonymous 2023/07/27(Thu) 20:30 No.19
I have a partially-translated 2ch-type board software on my test server, but personally I find them a little boring and overdone. The Western web is already saturated with too many 2ch-type boards for the relatively few people interested in using them (;^Д^)
I want to focus on bringing fresh and unique things to the Western web instead, and there's still plenty more to come in that regard ヽ(´ー`)ノ
(...that said, pls do submit suggestions if you come across any kewl/interesting Japanese scripts that aren't 2ch/imageboard/etc.)

What about a YY-BOARD powered /gline/ since this board i'm currently in runs on this? (゚∀゚)
Re: Add a textboard called /gline/ Anonymous 2023/07/27(Thu) 22:01 No.21
I'm not sure what /gline/ is, but you can probably use /lounge/ instead ヽ(´ー`)ノ
Re: Add a textboard called /gline/ ゼリーさん 2023/07/28(Fri) 02:25 No.23
From 5ch:
"This board is a place to handle general information on 2ch.
The so-called "copy and paste modification" is here
To view and compile materials, go to the 2channel Materials Compilation Room"

That sounds liek sum lounge material to me ヽ(´ー`)ノ
I've found a bug on hakoniwa islands.
If you try post a comment with comma in it, the comma get deleted. The problem happends both on the island comment and in the tourist guestbook.

Re: comma bug in hakoniwa islands Anonymous◆Admin 2023/11/03(Fri) 23:28 No.138
It's a known issue - half-width commas get stripped out of user text input cuz half-width commas are used to separate data values in the island data files. Since Japanese writing doesn't use half-width commas to begin with, it made little difference to the original intended demographic of teh game ^^;
It's not a fix, but for the time being u can use full-width commas (,) as a workaround. I'll look into it again, but I'm no programmer... if any l33t hax0rz wants 2 take a look, teh source code is linked in this thread: https://cgi.heyuri.net/support/yybbs.cgi?res=111&pg=0

>is it possible to get my own imageboard?
On Heyuri? You can make your own uploader board on up.heyuri.net (assuming it's no longer b0rked), but other than that: noep
If you want an actual imageboard (and you don't want to set up your own website), you can use an 8chan clone like 8chan.moe to make your own fully-fledged 4chan-like imageboards
>i was told by kaguya to come here for supprt.
U sure? This board is really meant for Heyuri★CGI support specifically - Site Discussion on teh main site (img.heyuri.net/q/) is where questions regarding Heyuri as a whole belong ^^;
>have you thought about making guestbooks like the thing with up?
There's an ancient (we're talking 1997) PO Box script out there that I've translated, modified, and previously considered adding here - it has the ability to enable both user reading and writing, so it can effectively be used as a guestbook
However, it's very insecure and primitive (see: 1997), and has no easy way for staff-san or users to moderate it, so it most likely won't be added ^^;

I came across a yuichat-like script called TeaChat (pics are from ver. 1.8.3b) which has some features we don't have like much moar kaomoji and a "last seen" column on rankings. It also doesn't list those with less than 5 messages in the rankings.
http://www.teachat.org/
Since Chat@Heyuri has proved itself to be considerably active, I wonder if you're planning to add moar features to it (or somehow transferring stats to a more advanced script than COMCHAT, though I don't know anything about their technical side) in the longer term

i know this is nothing with CGI but it would fit here more then main site.
could there be a onsite voice chat where everyone is forced a same voice changer, but the client can tune stuff to still make a unique sounding robot voice (like a trip code)
have a base of 8 voices
trip can change the slightly change pitch and depth of voice

i think something like this would implement the original idea of these boards but with the computing power of something more modern.
i am sure some testing would be needed and i don't want the server to grab up peoples raw voice and log it. i am thinking indistinguishable even if it goes to just pure voice to tts

It's a kewl concept, but a very big task - most (all?) Heyuri projects are using existing (usually ancient) scripts with minor tweaks rather than creating whole new concepts from scratch
Creating some kind of multi-user VoIP chat service with voice changers is extremely non-trivial for our skill level (;^Д^)

I dunno - voice chat isn't something I'm personally interested in, and I've only learned how to run old CGI/Perl and PHP scripts (;^Д^)
There's things like Mumble out there, which I believe can be used with some kind of voice changer
