Doesn't matter modern or not
This question was asked 2 years ago too, I am curious how much it has changed:
https://archive.is/5DQyE
I know there was a recent thread about /jp/ on Off-Topic as well, most users in that thread said they liek'd old /jp/:
https://archive.is/UVgmv
But I wanted to ask /lounge/ about it after reading

By the way, this was /jp/ exactly a decade ago:
https://warosu.org/jp/?task=search2&ghost=yes&search_text=&search_subject=&search_username=&search_tripcode=&search_email=&search_filename=&search_datefrom=2013-04-25&search_dateto=&search_op=op&search_del=dontcare&search_int=dontcare&search_ord=old&search_capcode=all&search_res=op
It's interesting how heavily moderated it was compared to the other boards...

Disclaimer: I was 155-san in that 2 year old thread, and 4630-san (;^Д^)
Ultimately, I think too many people conflate Japan's own otaku & net culture as being /jp/'s "culture". The latter always sucked, and at no point could /jp/sies ever "take it easy" (;´Д`)
Regarding a change on Heyuri: the entire userbase outside of about 3-4 longterm users has completely changed over the past 2 years (multiple times!), and several of the newer users are far more /jp/-inclined than what we ever had before. Even putting Chenspam aside, so many threads have 2hu crap in them for no reason... there was a time when users were punished for that!
Regarding /jp/ a decade ago: I think that's unfair even to /jp/, since 4chan became particularly godawful during 2012-2014, both in terms of users and moderation. Then again, when you ask former /jp/sies when they think the "good old days" were, they always say things like "before the 2016 election", demonstrating that they're probably the kiddies who made 4chan so unbearable during 2012-2014 in the first place (;^Д^)

I identify a lot with /jp/ seeing as I've posted on there off-and-on for over a decade.
It's stunning how it's consistently gotten worse over time, but I think Heyuri has some of that magic which attracted me to /jp/ in the first place, so I like it here ヽ(´∇`)ノ

/jp/ used to be the place to be. The only such place on the net. We /jp/sies really knew how to yukkuri shiteitte ne. We used to have some unwritten rules that were very similar to Heyuri's own rule 8. I think 2008-2012 was the golden era, but for some years it managed to not completly turn to shit like the rest of 4chan, keeping its culture largely intact. It was the only place you could have an actual discussion about Touhou, 07th Expansion's games or other otaku culture related stuff.

2018 was the beginning of the end – it was the year hololivers started posting on jay, also many old tripfags left us at that time. But the end came 2 years later. It was December 23rd, 2020 – the day meidos allowed hololivers outside of their generals. Vtumors, as was expected, flooded the board with their threads, bumping all other threads of the board and making /jp/ one of the fastest boards on 4chan at the time. We couldn't take it easy anymore. I remember the date exactly, because one anon said sarcastically that meidos gave us an early christmas gift. And that was the day /jp/ died, and with it all my joy and hopes.

Two years after those events, I still can't quite believe they happened and in my dreams I still see my /jp/ alive and well... but when I wake up, I do not whimper. My board is dead and buried, gone forever, and there's nothing I can do.

As I remembar kuz only proposed to b& 2hu stuff around early 2021 on Heyuri, but noone was ever actually punished. Even you were against it

>2018 was the beginning of the end – it was the year hololivers started posting on jay
In 2018, Hololive were nobodies even in Japan - you're probably thinking of late 2019, when the Twitch crowd discovered Hololive and things started snowballing on that front
In 2018 and most of 2019, the Virtual Youtuber presence on /jp/ was a single general (a set up that was both desired by the majority of thread residents and enforced by the mods), and the board was otherwise dominated by 3D idol generals
The days of /jp/ being a predominantly 2hu-oriented board were already a distant memory...which is why it was so laughable to me when everyone started acting like they were protecting something of value when Hololive exploded in the West, and 4chan mods stopped trying to contain it. The /jp/ those users were fighting for was already dead - Holon00bs were simply raping its corpse! (´∇`)
Source: a fag who lurked the Virtual Youtuber general threads on /jp/ from early 2018 to late 2019, but otherwise seldom visited the board and had already sworn off 4chan as "unsalvageably shit" several years earlier

There was definitely a point where kuz was taking some kind of action or stance against off-topic 2hu avatarfagging, which I didn't oppose cuz it was pretty annoying LOL
In terms of allowed topics, I've always been in favor of Heyuri housing anything Japanese and/or otaku-related, old or new

Fuck off, vtumor. Holoshitters taking over the board made everyone angry, not only Touhoufags. Trainfags, dollfags, anons from /djt/, /07th/, /vng/ and other generals were all complaining about it and trying to convince meidos to ban vteens from jay. And also you're wrong, /jp/ was still Touhou oreinted even in 2020. Despite 3DPD posters' best efforts, Touhou always had over half of all threads at any given time.

You seem to be confused, anon. This thread isn't about jp (japanese) culture broadly speaking, but about the culture of a 4chan board called /jp/ – Otaku Culture (formerly Japan/General).

I just said we can no longer take it easy... at least not on /jp/. Good thing Heyuri exists, huh? And a couple of other altchans but they aren't as good.

True. I always look around for a bit whenever a Heyurian posts a chan I'm not familiar with, but they are inevitably filled with nu-chan bullshit, angry teens, and lots of 'fighting teh degeneracy'...
