Does anyone know of any good comedy books to recommend? I've already read The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. (btw it's a great book)
I'm working on one of those abridged parody scripts, but I'm looking for a reference of what good comedy reads like. I haven't read many books in a while and so my writing skills are pretty rusty.

I think comedy is about subverting expectations. You set things up to go one way, then the punchline is that they go the other way. You can do this with irony, absurdity, maybe a deadpan reaction to absurd events, etc...
