i know otaku is someone who likes the japanese culture, but at the same time, i am just not so sure about the exact definition/ criteria of being called an otaku. just how obsessed you have to be to be called an otaku?

Otaku just means extreme fans of niche stuff. You can be a sports otaku, a military otaku etc. it doesn't have to be anime, manga or games. If your an obsessive fan of something niche then your an otaku.

Real question is what would you get out of calling yourself an otaku? why would you want to be one anyway?
