I started reading some crappy Star Trek humour comic and I had to give up a few pages in, because it had this tacky gimmick going where the Enterprise Crew encounter a bunch of theater-kid dickheads who tell them that their life is just a TV Show; you know, it's ''''meta''''nida

Why's everyone got such a hard-on for meta-humour and irony? Even the worst crap tries to save itself by being 'self-aware' about how crappy it is. It just comes off as lame and as if the writer didn't want to really try. I really wish people would just play things straight instead of pretending we're all in on a joke that was funny for 9 seconds in the 1990s... I actually enjoy dull old sitcoms from the 70s more than any of this crap. (They're wittier than you'd expect; and all without relying on meta-humour!)

Maybe at some point, people will get bored of meta-humour and start to enjoy more honest stories, and they'll call it "new honesty" (I think I've seen the term "new honesty" on 4chan before). Maybe it will suck for new reasons we can't imagine today though mona2.
