Get onto soulseek, that's the prime location these days. If you're on linux use the Nicotine client, on Windows I think the regular soulseek client is alright.
You have a good shot of finding a plethora of users who are hosting whatever random far-out musician you are after.
Just make sure to share your own stuff first!

YouTube's audio quality is pretty low (relative to a FLAC or a 320 kbps MP3) due to their egregious compression. Unless ur making the mistake of downloading 128 kbps (or less) MP3s or shitty vinyl rips, DDLs/P2P/torrents/etc. should be much higher quality (;^Д^)

You probably just have a crappy audio setup - also, ripped CDs can sound totally transparent depending on the format and compression setting ^^;

Yeah, it's the default setting for all new users, that if anyone tries to download from you with no shares they get autobanned. It encourages the culture of sharing!
There's tons of super dedicated users with high uptime too, most users seem to have filelists between 30k to 200k files. once I saw a guy with a 700k filelist

I hear the name flung out often enough in random places, so it's definitely well-known though not quite 'popular'. Maybe because most people don't know how p2p filesharing works, or would be scared of teh spookee virusez

Don't download executable files?? I am not even sure they allow them in the first place.
Worst that could happen to you are:
-wrong tracks
-corrupted tracks
-low quality tracks
-slow download speed
-Can't find your super underground music that you like.
None of these happened to me except the corrupted files twice and slow downloads all the time.

Anyone else hate using Soulseek and have no other choices for finding their own music? There are SO many people there who keep their files private and require that you pay them to get access to these files. Fucking awful. I can't even find obscure stuff anywhere else because many sites have closed down. The internet's fucking dying.
