It wasn't one of the first "walk around a forest collecting things before a ghoul catches you" games, Slender and its clones beat it to that by years and it was already a common theme in Japanese indie horrors before, but it's a lot more memorable to me than any of those mentioned. Maybe because I just think the floating head is cute.

The website ふぁんしーあいらんど scared the shit out of me when I visited it years ago. It was in flash and remade in htlm which sadly downgraded some cool parts...
There was a niche of seemingly kawaii websites hiding flash mazes

I only played original RE4 - and consider it among teh best game i ever played. New remaek looks fukking awezum, however, re4 never really needed one... That said - i will play it one day as i really did enjoy RE2 remake. nyaoo-closedeyes
