It was a pretty cool game. Though a lot of the time it felt less like a case of having to really learn the boss/enemy patterns and more a case of just grinding up enough. As such, I didn't find it a particularly hard game for that most part (minus learning to deal with those Blue Venus Weeds...). I suppose I could have used a bit more challenge, but it was still fun and appropriate for the season. Thanks to the poster here who chose it for me last time.
Though I've touched just about all the classic games in the series, the only other one that I played to the end was Super Castlevania IV. It was also pretty neat, though a part of me thinks that Castlevania III on the Famicom is actually the best out of the ones in the series that I have played. It was so damn hard that I never finished it though. What is your favorite Castlevania game? (Also I hate calling this series "Castlevania." It's DEVIL'S CASTLE DRACULA in Japanese which sounds much cooler. Fuck soccer moms and localization
)
Also first reply chooses my next game:
Super Mario Bros. (1985)
Chrono Trigger (1995)
Final Fantasy VII (1997)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)
Metal Gear Solid (1998)
Silent Hill (1999)
Half-Life 2 (2004)
Shadow of the Colossus (2005)
Fallout 3 (2008)
Hollow Knight (2017)

When I played it, most of the bosses were piss easy. I think I died to pic related more than any of the bosses.

Kuso, I didn't read that part... Well, Metal Gear is a good choice anyway, so I have no complaints.
Also I gave a quick reply before so let me try again plz

>What is your favorite Castlevania game?
Aria of Sorrow, hands down. It's short, but I liek the souls system and it's probably the only besides SOTN and Harmony of Dissonance that I beat. I guess the best "classic" Castlevania is the first one, but only by default because it's the only one I can beat. Cannot into NES games...

Hard disagree there. Castlevania sounds fitting: it's castle+transylvania AKA home of spooky vampires, werewolves and Romanians, oh my! Devil's Castle Dracula has no fukken devil in it, therefore it's a LIE and a SCAM to call it that!

Here comes a rant about the combat in SOTN
...
The first issue is mobility. At first i thought that having a inhumanly slow turning animation but adding a backward dash button was a good way of teaching the player to be mindful of distance and pose a combat dynamic based on unidirectionality. HOWEVER, most often than not you are required to dodge attacks on both sides and god forbid you failed because that means knockback + stunt. The most notorious examples are the boss fight against the Castlevania 3 protagonists and the clock tower section of the inverted castle.
On top of that, the combat as a whole can be cheesed easily. As soon as you get the poisonous mist you basically have a button to disengage at will and still cause damage. For that reason, the best course of action when you can't get passed a boss isn't studying the patterns and devicing a proper strategy, but rather buying MP restoring potions and going into mist form as much as possible
