Job types
First of all, there's no strongest job that is invincible to everything. Every job has its own characteristics, and by mastering the skills of a given job, you can win against even the strongest opponents.
Note: You can have up to two skillsets; your current job's, and your previous job's. You can find more information on the Alltrades Abbey page.
Jobs can be broadly classified into three types: vanguard, rearguard, and support.
Vanguard type - high base stats and endurance
Vanguard types such as Warriors have high base stats.
Their HP and defense are particularly high, so they have a good chance of surviving to the end of battles. Since they're always at the front of the party, they play very important roles in both acting as a wall and as attackers.
Rather than learning skills, their biggest advantage is having the physical strength to keep fighting until the end. Just having one of these in your party can be very reassuring.
Their weaknesses include low MP and slow skill acquisition.
Why you might choose to play as a vanguard type
- Their primary method of attack is brute force
- Regardless of what happens, they're likely to survive to the end of battles
- Great for solo players
- Suitable for party leaders
Rearguard type - is skill mastering your specialty?
Rearguard types are the complete opposite of vanguard types, with low base stats and their main attacks being magic (such as with Mages).
Many spells can attack all enemies or deal damage regardless of an opponent's defense, so they can be more prominent attackers than vanguard types.
However, they're very vulnerable to attacks (low HP and defense), so they have a high chance of being killed before anyone else. They become the weakest players if they run out of MP or have their magic sealed.
It's only when combined with other jobs or they're supported by other players that they show their true potential.
Why you might choose to play as a rearguard type
- Wipe out enemies with a single attack
- Recklessly rushing is your style
- Works great in parties
- You want to show off
- Suitable for those who want to lead from the rear
