Response to "Would you lick a girl's sweaty (post-exercise) asshole if she never wiped and never bathed?" poll

[]
Why the fuck did you have to add the "if she never wiped and never bathed" part!?? I (and probably many others) would've gladly accepted otherwise!! ヽ(`Д´)ノ

Lurking 80s Usenet

[]
https://olduse.net/ has started up again!

For those who don't know, it's a large archive of Usenet from 1981-1991 that's running in realtime, and you can access it using newsreader software

Here's a quick tutorial for Mozilla Thunderbird:

1. File -> New -> Newsgroup account
2. Put in a name and an email address (it doesn't really matter)
3. Put "olduse.net" in as the Newsgroup Server, use whatever name for it or just leave it
4. Right click the new account you made on the left folder pane and click Settings
5. Go to Server Settings on the left under "olduse.net"
6. Change the port to either 11940, 11941, or 11942 (they are 40, 41, and 42 year delays respectively). I recommend 11940 to see the most activity
7. Come out of the settings, right click on "olduse.net" again, and click Subscribe
8. Scroll down the list of newsgroups and subscribe to the ones that interest you
9. Close that window, click on the newsgroup of choice, and press Get Messages
10. Read Usenet posts from 40 years ago!

Now post fun things you find (´∇`)

What really strikes me about going thru these archives is how totally even-keeled everyone is, as compared to today. This was back when nothing really mattered online. It was truly the place you went to take a break from real life. Better still; all of the posters were tech-savvy and intelligent nerds, which prevented everything from descending into pandemonium and drudgery.

The biggest indicator of this is net.suicide. A whole newsgroup dedicated to suicide, and they start making jokes, quoting magazines, discussing the meaning of life, and unemotionally sharing stories and philosophy on the topic.

Any boardz dedicated to suicide nowadays would instantly devolve into repetitive teenage whining, and a battle between insincere self-help platitudes and runaway cynical sarcasm...depression

I don't wanna go back to the days when the net was controlled by hackers and nerds (;゚Д゚)

it works, you just need to add
halfdelay(1); getch();
at the end of the printpic() function, and compile with
gcc main.c -lcurses

Bonus mod, throw in
cbreak(); getch();
before
endwin();
in the main function to see him exploded into bits (・A・)

Japanese or Chinese?

[]
Should I learn Japanese or Chinese? I love Japan, but people say China is the future.

Sounds like you don't have a good reason to be determined for either, so none.
[]
>>6143
The reason is to know more about another culture and find a job. There are more opportunities for those who can speak another language.
[]
Which would you rather live in? It helps if you have a large volume of media from each you'd genuinely enjoy getting into. A good portion of effective language learning is through exposure.

I had the same question many years ago and never learned either for the same reasons - I'm more comfortable with Japanese media, life and culture, however I also love the Chinese stuff and like you say it's allegedly "the future". But its media and language and speakers are far less accessible to me, and the challenge of memorizing the characters and tones of the language (not that Japanese doesn't have these, but they come easier in my experience) was too much for me.

In the end I put off learning Japanese for years, and in that time I had two job offers from firms in Japan, and regretted ever disparaging it. Moral of the story - do what you want, and do it now!! ヽ(´ー`)ノ

Good co-op games to play with a friend?

[]
I've been talking to a girl recently for the first time in years, and she invited me to play a game with her over the internet next weekend. Now what I really wanted to do, was to invite her over to my house to play ps2 games, but I'm not nearly as intimate with her to say such a thing. So instead I must choose a game to play with her, since she's also not familiar with co-op games.
Any suggestions, heyuri? Something that runs on windows XP, pretty please? I only thought of minecraft, but I've played minecraft to death already.

corporate killed innovation?

[]
i am gonna assume posters here are some what tech smart.
as person who i belive got "cheated" in academa. i notice that friends who are not like me and who do go to collage and university, they are way far behind then what kids in the 70,80,90s would have been learning.
these friends have a goal in life but i dont belive the path they are on helps them.

as a neet who gave up games and youtube. i left my self either trying to find new bullshit to consume or study hard on what i truly want.
when i do study what i truly want, i compair with my friends who is in collage for similar goal. they are way further behind, they dont understand anything i belive is important foundation.

all sort of "reaserch" seems to have turned to use corporate products and not reserch made products, thats why things like unix(bsd) and lisp has died out and in favor for things like redhat linux and python/javascript. ye python is ok and redhat has unixlike at its core but you see its no longer about research.
if you cant understand the foundations you are working on due to corporate abstractions then innovation is killed.
a system built on secrets is a system that will die once the secrets are forgot. rome...

i think you are missing the topic. it dose not just apply to uni. kids are given tablets once they go into elementary school. they believe they can do anything with it, i get in arguments with high schoolers who believe its better then a desktop.

they even believe typing on a touch screen is faster then using a keyboard. games are easier to play on tablet.
watching them trying to do anything with files really hurts. the kids who do know a thing or 2 about computers are the ones who mom's bought them a gaming pc (laptop kids typically are the tablet users i don't understand)

but back to the whole idea. the person who understands the technology will be the ones who help keep the world go round. research (and the things that go in it) should be public for all, idc if a company makes tablet and tools.
the issue is the tools they used in academia are locked down and no one outside of the company has real understanding.

what would happen if the company goes bankrupt and uni really needs these new features. maybe the app still is around but wont receive any updates. if the uni had access to the technology used to make it they can tweek it to all ends to better there research.

i have a laptop and tablet... i'm not dumb i swear (;゚Д゚)

but, i do agree with you a lot anon. it definitely seems that both students and academia itself is getting progressively dumbed down, at least from what i know living in america. i fear for the later generations that have the entirety of human knowledge at their fingertips, yet have no thirst for gaining intelligence... ( ´,_ゝ`)
[]
I say this quite often to my parents whenever the subject of college comes up. They understand nothing of what I say, obviously.
But what I fear is going to university (computer science) and finding out exactly what you just wrote, that they're teaching without any foundation, without any philosophy. I fear stepping in there just to find the teacher uses windows 10 and visual studio or something.
[]
>>6132
That will be your exact experience. It's been mine so far
I came into university thinking I was gonna be behind others because I'd only been doing C++ for the last four years... lol seems dumb in retrospect. The most experienced student I've met is a guy who did python for one year, and thats the upper echelon you'll find here besides weirdos like me who have done this for ages for fun ヽ(´ー`)ノ
The only reason I am here is because I want the degree. it will be more helpful because I want to get into a career doing some low-level programming ASAP so Im trying to move to engineering/computer science. Maybe I'd even learn something!
if you can do without the paper, forgo university. people say the connections you make are important, I've yet to see if that's true. Im certainly making an effort to talk to people more important than my peers, as painful and tough as it is to. I went to class drunk the other day so I could talk easy with the professor, we had an awesome conversation about random stuff, but Im gonna have to sacrifice my liver to keep this up
[]
this is why i am a neet. just here to learn computers and move to Japan hoping i can get a program job.

i use to drink in highschool to try and talk to my crush. it kinda worked. but she didn't like me(;゚Д゚).

offtopic but how do you work with other people in a code project. it never seemed to work for me when i was in highschool and when i do stuff now.
